Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has testified in court in a lawsuit brought by game developer ZeniMax against the social network. ZeniMax alleges that Oculus VR stole some of its virtual reality (VR) technology, which Oculus then incorporated into its Rift headset. Facebook purchased Oculus in 2014.
“We are highly confident that Oculus products are built on Oculus technology,” Zuckerberg said in court. “The idea that Oculus products are based on someone else’s technology is just wrong.”
In his testimony, the CEO revealed that Facebook paid an additional $1 billion above the $2 billion purchase price for Oculus to retain key personnel and compensate them for hitting certain milestones. He said that he doesn't think "good virtual reality is fully there yet," and that it will take another $3 billion and five to ten years to make VR the next big computing platform.
