Microsoft has published some new numbers related to its Windows Phone store. The company claims that the platform added 75,000 brand new apps during the past year, doubling its 2011 total. Mobile development firms also published more than 300,000 updates for Windows Phone apps during 2012, and the platform expanded from 35 markets to 191.
"We literally set a new foundation this year with the deployment of all-new infrastructure - new client platform, new developer toolset, new Dev Center, new catalog infrastructure, and all-new global service," Microsoft blogged. "I know transitions can be frustrating, but it is now complete and customers and developers are already beginning to reap the benefits with a better app and store experience, faster performance, and more robust tools."
Of course, Windows Phone still trails iOS and Android by a long margin. Apple's App Store has more than 700,000 apps, and Google Play has nearly as many.
