Tech Sector Hiring Slowed Last Month

Still, the outlook remains good for software developers.

After two consecutive months of strong job growth, hiring in the U.S. technology sector slowed in December 2018, according to a recent CompTIA study.

Just 6,000 new tech jobs were added, of which more than 2,200 were in IT services, custom software development and computer system design.

Still, the outlook remains good for software developers. Positions in services, software development and systems design accounted for approximately 77 percent of all tech job gains throughout 2018 – and software and applications developers continue to top the list of IT job postings.

"The tech employment numbers for last month were fairly uneventful," CompTIA senior vice president for research and market intelligence Tim Herbert said in a statement. "Looking at the bigger picture, we expect a continuation of a tight labor market for tech talent throughout 2019."
