If you've recently joined a developer program run by Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook or another company, you're far from alone. A new survey of 500 software developers conducted by Evans Data found that 80 percent of those surveyed belong to at least one such program. That's a 57 percent increase in the last five years. Even as recently as 2011, only 55 percent of developers had joined a program.
"Developer programs are highly important today and getting even more so," said the report. "Not only do developers expect to be supported by anyone who offers a platform or even an API for adoption, but the number and types of companies that are offering APIs is increasing rapidly as the world becomes more interconnected and software becomes ubiquitous."
