A new report from Flurry says that phablets, mobile devices that are larger than most smartphones but smaller than most tablets, are driving growth in app usage. According to the report, phablets like the Apple iPhone 6 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy Note have experienced 148 percent usage growth year-over-year. That is 3.8 times as fast as growth for medium-sized smartphones, and it helped drive 78 percent year-over-year growth across the mobile development industry.
Interestingly, phablets seem to be picking up usage at the expense of larger tablets. During the period covered by the report, device usage for full-size tablets declined 20 percent.
