Report: About Half of Users Find Mobile Apps through App Store Search

by Developer.com Staff

A new study suggests that mobile development firms should pay more attention to where apps rank in search results.

A new study from ad analytics vendor TUNE found that 47 percent of iOS users and 53 percent of Android users said that they found the app they downloaded most recently through their app store's search feature. This dovetails with a recent report from Nielsen which said, "While most developers focus on cracking the top 25, search is becoming an increasingly important tool in the ‘long tail’ of mobile apps."

For both Android and iOS users, the next most likely places to have found an app (after search) were hearing about it from family or friends, reading about it on the Web or from a category top chart.
