Popcorn 1.0 Adds New Life to Web Video

by Cynthia Harvey

Mozilla's new technology makes online video more interactive.

Most of the time watching video on the Web is a whole lot like watching TV, but Mozilla's Popcorn 1.0 could help change that. The new tool allows developers to augment Web video with WebGL or JavaScript, so that videos include real-time information. For example, in One Millionth Tower, a Web movie created with Popcorn, the weather conditions in the documentary change for the viewer depending on the actual real-time weather at the location where it was filmed.

Interested developers can find the open source Popcorn.js and Popcorn Maker at MozillaPopcorn.org or at Github. View article
