Perl's Popularity Hits a New Low

Tuesday Apr 15th 2014 by Developer.com Staff

C is still number one on the Tiobe Index.

In the latest update to the Tiobe Index, which tracks the popularity of programming languages, the scripting language Perl has fallen to an all-time low. In the past year, it has dropped from ninth place on the list to thirteenth. Paul Jansen, managing director at Tiobe, said the language has been declining since 2006, when alternatives like Python and Ruby began to increase in popularity.

C remained at the top of this list, closely followed by Java. The rest of the top ten included Objective-C, C++, C#, Visual Basic, PHP, Python, JavaScript and Visual Basic.Net.
