Purchasing a MySQL commercial license from Oracle just got a lot more expensive.
Oracle has dropped the $600 entry-level package Sun Microsystems had, and now, an annual subscription is $2,000 for MySQL Standard Edition and $5,000 for the Enterprise Edition.
You can still download the community edition free of charge, but businesses that rely on MySQL commercial support are getting anxious.
"However, this bodes well for other companies," reported Carl Bagh from the International Business Times, "that are willing to provide support for MySQL like SkySQL, Monty Program and the MariaDB fork."
