Open Source Blamed for Nasdaq Hack

by Keith Vance

Journalist charges Aite Group with spreading FUD by blaming open source software for Nasdaq's SQL injection hack.

Some of Nasdaq's computers were hacked via a SQL injection attack and the Aite Group is blaming open source, and Network World's Alan Shimel is angry.

"When I see supposedly intelligent people blaming open source for simple SQL injections I see red," Shimel said. "Can you spell F-ear U-ncertainty and D-oubt?"

Shimel said this attack on open source in the face of a garden-variety SQL injection attack is fear mongering.

Neither open source or cloud computer, he said are to blame for this attack, and saying so "does us all a disservice."
