Mozilla Debuts 'Open' App Store

Mozilla's Web application store is still in its infancy, but the organization is hoping it can carve out a spot for itself in the app store arena.

Mozilla is planning to go head-to-head with Apple and Google with its Web Application project.

It's still in its infancy, but Mozilla Labs has delivered the first developer release of its "open" app store for Web applications that can run anywhere on any browser.

"The first build includes a spec to describe a web application, a set of new browser APIs that includes the ability for a website to 'install' itself in a browser, and documentation on how to build what Mozilla calls a free or paid 'directory of applications,'" The Register's Gavin Clarke said.
