Microsoft for Startups to Give Away $500 Million in Cash, Services

Participating companies will get free development tools and cloud computing services.

Over the next two years, Microsoft will give away $500 million in cash and services to young businesses through its Microsoft for Startups program. Participating startups will get up to $120,000 in Azure cloud computing credits, as well as application development tools and premium technical support. In addition, Microsoft will "offer co-selling options to startups as well as access to technology and new community spaces that promote collaboration within local ecosystems." Those community spaces will be in San Francisco, New York, Berlin, London, Sydney, Tel Aviv, Beijing, Shanghai and Redmond, Wash.

Microsoft offers other benefits to startups through its Microsoft ScaleUp program, and it also has a venture capital group called Microsoft Ventures.
