Microservice Manifesto: 6 Core Pillars

by Developer.com Staff

To be successful with microservices, you need to do more than change your application architecture.

Chase Aucoin, developer evangelist for AppDynamics, has published a new Microservice Manifesto. Similar to the Agile Manifesto that laid out the principles of agile software development, the Microservice Manifesto embraces six core pillars:

  1. Ownership
  2. Automation
  3. Testing
  4. Discoverability
  5. Accessibility
  6. Responsibility

“You may notice that these pillars aren’t very technical and do not feature some of the standard terminologies that we associate with microservices such as gateways, circuit breakers, service registration, etc. This is intentional as the most significant hurdles in adopting a microservice architecture for your organization are not technical,” Aucoin said.
