The effort aims to teach people of all ages about programming.

September 17 marks the beginning of the annual National Coding Week, an effort designed to get people of all ages interested in development. Launched in 2014, National Coding Week is the brainchild of Richard Rolfe, a former teacher and cancer patient who became interested in Web development as a second career. “It struck me that whilst there was government investment in a new computer science curriculum for schoolchildren, there wasn’t enough being done to support adults," he said. "My concern was there wasn’t enough being done to support teacher training, especially for non-specialists. Parents and governors needed training too."

Several vendors and non-profit organizations have announced initiatives in support of the event.
