According to a new report from Opera Software, iOS commands the highest ad rates of any mobile platform, which is good news for iOS developers who depend on advertising for income. The report evaluates mobile platforms in terms of eCPM, the cost advertisers must pay for every 1,000 people who see an ad. The report found that iOS commands an average eCPM of $2.49, compared to $2.10 for Android. The eCPM for the iPad was even higher--$3.96. RIM and Windows Phone lagged far behind with average eCPMs of $0.64 and $0.20, respectively.
Ads placed next to financial content earned the most for developers. By contrast, ads in social content brought in a very small percentage of revenue.
