IBM Announces New Watson IoT APIs, Headquarters

Big Blue will employ 1,000 developers and scientists in Munich, Germany.

IBM has made a trio of announcements related to its Watson Internet of Things (IoT) unit. First, the company plans to open a new headquarters for the unit in Munich, Germany, which will house around 1,000 developers and researchers. "Some of the leading thinking around industrial IoT started in Germany, and there are companies in the automotive industry working on things like connected cars," said Bret Greenstein, vice president of Watson IoT.

Second, the company launched four new Watson IoT APIs. They include a natural language processing API, a machine learning API, a video and image analytics API and a text analytics API.

Finally, IBM announced that it has open eight Watson IoT Client Experience Centers in Beijing, China; Boeblingen, Germany; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Seoul, South Korea; Tokyo, Japan; and Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Texas in the U.S.
