Google Releases Android Studio 2.2

The IDE is getting faster and smarter.

Google has officially released Android Studio 2.2, the IDE for its mobile development platform. Jamal Eason, the product manager for Android blogged, "Packed with enhancements, this release has three major themes: speed, smarts and Android platform support."

Key new features in the release include a new user interface designer, better C++ support, Java 8 support, OpenJDK support, a merged manifest viewer, a faster version of Instant Run, new virtual sensor controls in the Android Emulator and a build cache that can speed build times. In addition, the IDE has two new beta tools: the Espresso Test Recorder for beta testing UIs and a GPU debugger.

Android Studio 2.2 is now available for download from its official website.
