Google Adds a Firewall to App Engine

by Developer.com Staff

Developers can now block or allow access to the cloud development platform based on IP addresses.

Google App Engine has added a new firewall feature. The capability will allow developers who use the platform as a service to restrict access to their applications based on users' IP addresses. That can be particularly helpful for testing situations, and it may also help developers control their cloud computing costs.

In the past, App Engine offered denial of service protection that allows some IP address blocking, but Google is encouraging users to take advantage of the new firewall's more advanced capabilities.
