GitHub Open Sources Tool for Open Source Licensing

by Developer.com Staff

Licensed could make it easier to monetize open source projects.

GitHub has released Licensed, a tool for automating open source licensing processes, under an open source license. Because so many open source projects leverage other open source code, it can be difficult for developers to ensure that they are in compliance with all the related licenses. Licensed aims to make that process easier.

GitHub has already been used Licensed internally, and it works with any code stored in a Git repository.

However, GitHub noted, "1 of 1 consulted lawyers agree, Licensed is not a replacement for the legal advice of a human."
