According to a new report from Gartner, the infrastructure as a service (IaaS) market grew 29.5 percent in 2017, totaling $23.5 billion in revenue. Amazon Web Services retained its position as the market leader, cornering 53.7 percent of the market and posting 25.0 percent growth. But second place Microsoft Azure was the fastest-growing cloud computing provider, posting 98.2 percent revenue growth to account for 8.7 percent of the market. Together, the top four providers — Amazon, Microsoft, Alibaba, and Google — account for 73 percent of the market.
Gartner previously predicted that 80 percent of enterprises will shut down their data centers in favor of the public cloud by 2025. So far, only 10 percent of enterprises have done so.
