According to a new report from Flurry, app usage (measured by the number of use sessions) climbed just 11 percent last year, down from 58 percent in the 2015 report. But time spent in apps climbed dramatically — 69 percent. Social networking and messaging apps saw the biggest increases, while time spent in games declined slightly.
In other mobile development news, Apple will face antitrust charges related to its App Store. The U.S. Court of Appeals has ruled that a class action suit brought by app users who object to Apple's 30 percent take on app purchases can go through. Apple will have to defend itself against charges that it has a monopoly on iPhone and iPad app distribution.
