Flurry: 90% of iOS Apps Are Free

by Developer.com Staff

The mobile development industry is launching fewer paid apps.

A new report from Flurry claims that 90 percent of all iPhone and iPad apps are free. That's an increase from the 80 to 84 percent of apps that were free between 2010 and 2014.

Of course, "free" doesn't mean mobile development firms aren't making money. Free apps are often top earners thanks to advertising, in-app purchases and "premium" versions. "People want free content more than they want to avoid ads or to have the absolute highest quality content possible," wrote Flurry's Mary Ellen Gordon.

The report also indicated that Android users are even less likely to pay for downloads than iOS users.
