The social network wants to sell space in mobile users' newsfeeds to mobile developers.

Facebook has announced that all iOS and Android developers are now welcome to buy mobile ads on the social network. The ads show up in mobile Facebook users' newsfeeds and allow users to connect directly with the App Store or Google Play to download or purchase the advertised app. Previously, the program was available only to a select group of mobile development firms that participated in a trial program.

Some mobile development firms are reporting conversion rates as high as 50 percent thanks to the new ads. "For years, many apps and games on Facebook.com have used ads as an important part of their growth strategy," stated the Facebook developer blog. "Now we are bringing these opportunities to mobile apps. With these new ads, mobile apps and games of all sizes across any category can reach the right audience, at scale."
