The social network also released some new open source tools for Web and mobile development.

During his keynote address at his company's annual F8 developer conference, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg talked about the social network's augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) efforts. “I used to think glasses would be the first mainstream AR form factor we’d get in five years, but in the last few years we’ve seen primitive use cases on phones and cameras,” said Zuckerberg. “Today we start together and make the camera the first augmented reality platform.”

Facebook presented demonstrations of several new AR and VR tools, including Facebook Spaces, a VR app for the Oculus Rift.

The company also released several new open source Web and mobile development tools at the event, including Litho, React Fiber, Relay Modern and React VR.
