EditShare Announces Lightworks Open Source Platform

by Developer.com Staff

Lightworks Open Source platform scheduled to be released for Linux in Q3 of this year.

This isn't exactly new news, but in April, EditShare announced their plan to release their Academy and Emmy award-winning Lightworks as an open source platform.

This is kind of a big deal for people looking for a professional-grade video editing application that runs on Linux and doesn't cost $20,000.

According to the press release, "The company has transformed the time-honored editing solution into Lightworks Open Source, the industry's first open-source development initiative for a large-scale, non-linear editing platform."

A Linux version of Lightworks is expected in the 3rd quarter of this year.
