by Developer.com Staff

The developers for HyperSQL have released the first major release of the 100 percent Java database server in five years.

HyperSQL version 2.0 hit the Web this week.

HyperSQL is a 100 percent Java open source database server.

According to the project's Web site, "Version 2.0 supports the widest range of SQL Standard features seen in any open source database engine. We have reached SQL Standard conformance to almost full SQL-1992 Advanced Level and SQL:2008 core language features plus an extensive list of SQL:2008 optional features and many extensions."

The new version is fully multithreaded and supports high performance 2PL and MVCC transaction control models.

The previous version of HyperSQL, 1.8, has been out for nearly five years and will continue to receive stable bug fix releases for the foreseeable future.
