The Free Cloud Alliance Pushing Open Source Cloud Computing

The Free Cloud Alliance was created to push open source in the cloud.

This week IELO, Mandriva and Nexedi joined forces and created the Free Cloud Alliance to push open source into the cloud.

Mikael Ricknas of IDG News Service reported, "The Free Cloud Alliance was formed to show that companies can build a cloud-based infrastructure using open source products, according to Jean-Paul Smets, CEO at Nexedi."

Smets told Ricknas that it's about freedom.

"If you have access to the source code and your data in its native form you don't run the risk of being locked in to one vendor," Smets said.
