Oracle predicts that negotiations over the weekend will be enough to convince EC regulators to approve the deal to purchase Sun Microsystems.

Oracle President Safra Catz has been battling European Commission regulators over Oracle's acquisition of Sun Microsystems for months.

It's almost over now, and Catz said that he's confident the EC will approve the deal.

According to a story over at target="_blank">Open Source Magazine by Maureen O'Gara, Catz agreed to a few "relatively non-restrictive promises" regarding MySQL over the weekend.

Oracle's token gestures to the EC, Catz said will allow the agency to approve the deal and save face too, reported O'Gara.
