[insights]In building this program, we used Microsoft Platform Ready, which provided us with a number of benefits in relation to Cloud development.
It was easy to test the Cloud application, which provided is with a quicker qualification of partner competencies. The MPR program also gave us early access to Microsoft latest software including the use of the MPR testing tools for Windows Azure, SQL Azure, and Windows 7. The PaperTracer application successfully passed the test. We were then able to verify our application by uploading the test results onto MPR.
After passing the tests our application was eligible for Windows Azure and MPR Marketing funds. The successful test also allowed us to get qualified for the Silver Competency as well as being qualified for "Powered by Azure" logo.
We received very good technical Support from Microsoft in resolving the issue with uploading certificates to the portal as well as Azure hotline to get the technical support on multiple issues we were going through. The use of the Microsoft MPR made our life as a partners easier. It made it very easy to adopt emerging technologies and earn competencies.
- Deployed Silverlight application onto Azure and faced many issues like missing dlls's, Registries, Sessions States.
- For the session state issue created a startup task so that whenever the VM is changed or getting refreshed the startup will be always running.
- For the registries issue entered all the registries into the settings of the web role.
The benefits of instances - there is a higher development time in constructing the initial instance, including start up tasks and configuration settings, however, once the instance has been configured, and that one instance can be deployed multiple times or expanded easily with instance size/counts. We also do not need to worry about updating the instances, or managing the hardware that the web application runs on. [/insights]
