In the past, Apple's App Store has always had more apps than Google Play, but it appears that may have changed. Reporting platform vendor appFigures claims, "Google finally closed the gap and actually jumped ahead of Apple, ending the year with more than 1.43 million apps compared to 1.21 million."
In addition, appFigures said that Android has had more developers than iOS for some time and that the gap widened significantly in 2014. As of the end of 2014, Google Play had 400,000 mobile development firms on board, compared to 283,000 for Apple. The report added, "More developers joined Google in 2014 than Apple and Amazon combined!"
