Thanks to developer Jay Rodgers and other members of the open source community, Visual Studio Code now runs on Chromebooks, Raspberry Pi and other systems with ARM processors. The new builds support Linux and Chrome OS.

In addition, the builds should support most Visual Studio Code extensions. “The rule of thumb is that unless the extensions are using native components, and those native components do not support ARM, they should work just as they do elsewhere,” Rodgers said.

Visual Studio Code is a lighter, open source version of Microsoft’s Visual Studio IDE. It supports JavaScript, TypeScript and Node.js by default with extensions adding support for C#, Python and Go.
