The company is trying to prevent startups from defecting to the IO.js fork.

Joyent, the company behind the open source Node.js JavaScript framework, has announced a new incubator program for startups and individuals. Developers and companies using Node.js can apply for $25,000 worth of cloud computing services, hosting, training, support, tools and debugging, as well as marketing and networking opportunities. Applicants will be judged on the originality of their proposals.

Some industry observers suggest the incubator is a response to a recent fork of Node.js called IO.js. Community developers started the fork because they were dissatisfied with Joyent's handling of Node.js. Developers using IO.js for their projects will not be eligible for the incubator program.
