Mozilla want to overhaul its 10-year-old open source license.

After 10 years of use, Mozilla is updating its open source license.

Yesterday, the open source organization launched a new site (http://mpl.mozilla.org) to gather information from the community on the license overhaul.

The goal is to maintain the spirit of the existing while updating it to reflect modern software development.

"Its spirit has served us well, helping to communicate some of the values that underpin our large and growing community. However, some of its wording may be showing its age," according to the "Updating the MPL" Web site.

"Keeping both those things in mind, we're launching this process to update the license, hoping to modernize and simplify it while still keeping the things that have made the license and the Mozilla project such a success."

They hope to have a new license by October or November 2010.
