Santa was very good to the mobile development industry this year. Mobile analytics firm Flurry is reporting that iOS and Android users downloaded 328 million apps on Christmas day, breaking the previous records for single-day downloads. By comparison, smartphone and tablet owners downloaded just 242 million apps last Christmas.
In addition, the firm found that users activated 17.4 million new iOS and Android devices on December 25. That's a huge increase from the 6.8 million in 2011 and the 2.8 million in 2010.
The company expects downloads to remain high through New Year's Day. Flurry's Peter Farago blogged, "Flurry anticipates downloads to surpass more than 1.5 billion, and have a shot at breaking through the 2-billion download barrier for the first time ever."
